Coding Challenge: Blob made of springs

Following the last tutorial on blob making, I'd love to learn how to make blobs moving organically (almost like a fluid, see GIF above) using springs instead of random values. This technic was mentioned / suggested a couple of times in the video tutorials but has not been tackled yet.

I've personnaly tried to connect particles to springs and give them a repulsion force from each other (that is proportionnal to distance) but it was a total failure ! --> https://media.giphy.com/media/NQhWWF8hFEu4Q1Ydg8/giphy.gif

If you happen to read that message Mr. Shiffman, I'd love you explain me what's wrong with my approach.
