Handle Negitve roots

If the first value is negative the Sqrt results in a NAN

Locate the code path that calculates the square root and reproduce the problem with a negative first value. Determine the intended behavior for that input, then verify that the calculation no longer produces NaN and add or run a focused check for the negative-input case.
