ubuntu deployment issue

Description
I was trying to deploy a cluster using the a clyclecloud ubuntu image and the cluster constantly fails when trying to install the default software using the chef cookbooks.
When the installation files for SGE are running one can see that it complains about permissions
However, when I look at the chef-client.log one can see that it seems to be that the configuration script itself is returning an error
I'm wondering if someone else had seen such a problem.
