描述

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Yes. I'm frequently frustrated when using my MacBook Pro with a single USB-C cable connected to a third-party monitor for both video output and charging. Whenever the charging status changes — such as charging starting/stopping, Optimized Battery Charging kicking in, battery crossing certain thresholds, or power fluctuating — the external monitor briefly disconnects (black screen for a few seconds, then reconnects). This happens repeatedly and significantly disrupts my workflow. This is not a bug in AlDente. It is a known USB-C limitation caused by Power Delivery (PD) renegotiation on the same cable that carries DisplayPort Alt Mode video. Most monitors only supply 60–65W, while 14/16-inch MacBook Pros require 96–140W for full-speed charging, making renegotiations more frequent. Apple supports charging via USB-C monitors, but there is currently no official solution for the resulting display interruptions.Describe the solution you'd like
I would like AlDente to offer optional features that help mitigate this issue at the software level by making charging behavior smoother and reducing sudden power changes that trigger PD renegotiation.Specifically:Smoother / gradual power ramp-up and ramp-down when starting or stopping charging, or when adjusting charge limits.
An optional “USB-C Monitor Charging Mode” that uses more conservative charging strategies and minimizes abrupt charging state transitions when power is coming from a monitor.
Finer control over the rate of charging current changes to avoid triggering video link resets.

Even a small improvement in charging smoothness could noticeably reduce the frequency of monitor disconnections.Describe alternatives you've considered Using the original Apple charger separately (this completely solves the issue, but defeats the purpose of single-cable convenience).
Disabling Optimized Battery Charging in macOS.
Using high-quality Thunderbolt 4 / E-Mark 100W+ cables.
Updating macOS, monitor firmware, and resetting SMC/NVRAM.

These alternatives help somewhat, but none provide a complete software-controlled solution while still allowing convenient single-cable usage with the monitor.Additional context
This issue is widely reported in Apple Discussions and Reddit communities, especially with M-series MacBook Pros and third-party USB-C monitors. A recent relevant discussion can be found here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/1ob10qc/macos_tahoe_update_broke_usbc_display_connection/AlDente already gives users excellent control over charging behavior, so I believe it is in a unique position to help alleviate this pain point.I’m happy to provide:My exact Mac model and macOS version
Monitor model
Screen recordings of the black screen issue
Any relevant logs

Thank you again for the great work on AlDente — it’s already one of my most valued Mac utilities!Best regards,
