broken links before loading image

Description
When scrolling my page and upon initial page load all the images which are lazy loaded flash a broken link thumbnail for a second before fully loading. I'm looking at some of examples online and none of them seem to behave that way on my browser. I'm using chrome version 77 and I'm currently running a local version of my site via mamp, don't know if that could have anything to do with it.
