Virus mutated in bloodstream doesn't update scanner

Please note that this is only my speculation on the cause for a really strange bug, which caused a virus to change from the one that was bred in a blood sample to a completely separate virus, without med scanners noting the change.
Essentially, what I think happened is that the virus mutated in my bloodstream, and the med scanner's result wasn't updated. I've really no idea, though.
