Soft navigation for images to keep media playing

**is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.**
It's great that the media player stays open so that music continues playing while browsing, but it's a bit jarring that clicking an image stops the media by doing a hard navigation to the image.

**Describe the idea / solution you'd like**
It would be nice if images would open as a "preview" with a soft navigation instead, so that the full webapp doesn't actually unload.

**Describe any alternatives you've considered**
Middle-clicking on the image opens it in a new tab, which is a workaround for now.

**Additional context**
I'm running on Chrome, in case that matters.
