To improve accessibility and maintainability (we may catch more errors related to types), we could try using the Rust compiler to write some/all of these scripts. I'm not sure if there are any drawbacks or complications related to doing this (for instance, I don't know if bindings are always up to date - probably not especially on dev branches), but otherwise this should be an improvement to the setup.
