Description

The test can be reduced to:

cd  ~/zopen/dev/bashport/bash-5.2/tests
catfile()
{
   cat <<- EOF > $FILENAME
     $(cat $1)
EOF
  cmp $FILENAME $1
 # rm -f $FILENAME
 }

catfle ../y.tab.c

This fails.

Research direction

Start in the tests directory with the reduced heredoc case from the issue and reproduce the failure using ../y.tab.c. Compare the generated file with the source using cmp, then identify the heredoc behavior causing the mismatch and add or update a regression test showing the expected comparison result.
