Research direction

Start by reproducing the python setup.py install failure in the reported Ubuntu 18.04, CUDA 11.0, PyTorch 1.7.1, and A100 environment. Inspect the setup.py build configuration and determine why nvcc receives compute_80; done means source installation completes without the unsupported-architecture error.
