Description

[Suggestion / Feature] Live token + cost meter per chat and per turn in chat.z.ai

Verified demand: Across the community export, ~543 messages ask about token usage / cost visibility ("how many tokens did this burn?", "show my usage"). Users currently have no in-UI way to see token consumption per message or per session.

Proposal: Show a live token counter per turn and a running session total inside chat.z.ai (and ZCode). Optionally show estimated USD cost based on the active model's published pricing.

Why this matters:

  • Cuts the anxiety that drives "am I being rate-limited?" confusion during normal use.
  • Makes the Fair Usage boundary (see issue #142) visible before a restriction hits.
  • Helps Max Plan users understand their own consumption instead of guessing.

Regards,
Roman

Research direction

The issue names chat.z.ai and ZCode but no source files, tests, or implementation entry point. Start by locating the UI responsible for chat turns and session usage, then confirm whether estimated USD pricing is in scope. Done means token usage is visible per turn and as a running total for each chat, with the pricing behavior explicitly settled.
