Optimize components for large datasets

**Feature request**
It would be great to have import for routes.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_import` with default `false`.

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by locating route handling and configuration parsing, then clarify how the new enable_import option should affect them; done means route import works when enabled and remains disabled by its default false setting.
