Add configuration options for sorting

**Feature request**
It would be great to have caching for auth.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_caching` with default `false`.

The issue names no file, test, or entry point. First clarify the mismatch between the sorting title and the authentication-caching request, then identify where configuration and authentication behavior are handled; done should include an agreed scope for enable_caching, its false default, and the expected production behavior.
