Improve error messages in hooks

**Feature request**
It would be great to have analytics for middleware.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_analytics` with default `false`.

No files, tests, or entry points are named. Start by locating the middleware configuration and any existing analytics or telemetry paths, then clarify what events and deployment behavior enable_analytics should control. Done should include the option with a false default and a defined, tested analytics behavior.
