Optimize data for large datasets

**Feature request**
It would be great to have caching for services.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_caching` with default `false`.

No file, test, or entry point is identified. Start by locating the service configuration and existing service/data-handling code, then search for related configuration options and caching behavior. Done should include a documented `enable_caching` option that defaults to `false` and verified behavior for production services.
