Support caching configuration

**Feature request**
It would be great to have logging for helpers.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_logging` with default `false`.

Start by locating the configuration handling and helper logging entry points in the repository. Reconcile the title's caching request with the body’s logging requirement, then inspect how options receive defaults. Done means the intended configuration option is implemented with a default of false and helper logging works for the stated production use case.
