Add unit tests for handlers

**Feature request**
It would be great to have search for api.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_search` with default `false`.

Start by locating the handlers and API entry point referenced by the issue, then inspect how configuration options are defined and tested. Clarify whether the goal is unit tests for existing handlers or a searchable API feature; done should include the agreed behavior and an enable_search option whose default is false.
