Improve store performance

**Feature request**
It would be great to have monitoring for lib.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_monitoring` with default `false`.

Start by locating lib/ and the existing configuration entry points, then trace how store behavior and configuration options are handled. Clarify what production monitoring should expose before implementation. Done means a default-false enable_monitoring option controls the agreed monitoring behavior.
