Update hooks documentation

**Feature request**
It would be great to have retry for auth.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_retry` with default `false`.

No file, test, or entry point is identified. Start by locating the hooks and authentication configuration, then determine where `enable_retry` belongs and how retries should behave; done means the option defaults to `false`, production authentication can retry when enabled, and coverage documents the expected behavior.
