Add TypeScript types for helpers

**Feature request**
It would be great to have compression for types.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_compression` with default `false`.

Start by resolving the mismatch between the title's TypeScript-types request and the body’s compression feature request. Search the repository for existing configuration options and type definitions, then determine which requested behavior is in scope. Done should include a clearly defined change, the default value of false, and coverage for the resulting configuration or types.
