Consider deprecating old hooks API

**Feature request**
It would be great to have logging for models.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_logging` with default `false`.

No files or tests are named. Start by locating configuration handling and the model execution path, then check how existing hooks or logging are exposed. Done should include an `enable_logging` option defaulting to `false` and logging for model activity, with relevant tests updated or added.
