Update utils documentation

**Feature request**
It would be great to have compression for api.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_compression` with default `false`.

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by locating the API configuration and request-handling entry points, then trace how configuration defaults are defined. Done means API compression can be enabled through `enable_compression`, remains disabled by default, and is covered by relevant tests.
