Improve error messages in models

**Feature request**
It would be great to have backup for store.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_backup` with default `false`.

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points; first locate the configuration handling and model-related code in the repository. Determine where an enable_backup option belongs, how its false default is represented, and what backup behavior the request covers; done should include a defined production-use outcome and validation for the default.
