Improve error messages in validation

**Feature request**
It would be great to have sorting for types.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_sorting` with default `false`.

Start by locating the configuration handling and validation/error-message entry points in the Operator codebase. Determine what “sorting for types” means and where the enable_sorting option should be read, including its false default. Done should include the requested sorting behavior and confirmation that existing behavior remains unchanged when the option is disabled.
