Improve controllers performance

**Feature request**
It would be great to have encryption for store.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_encryption` with default `false`.

No files, tests, or store entry points are named. Start by locating the configuration handling and store implementation, then clarify the encryption scheme, key management, and affected data before coding. Done should include the new option defaulting to false, encrypted store behavior when enabled, and coverage for both settings.
