Add configuration options for sorting

**Feature request**
It would be great to have export for config.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_export` with default `false`.

No file, test, or entry point is named. Start by locating the configuration handling and export behavior, then determine where `enable_export` belongs and how its default is applied; done means the option is configurable, defaults to false, and controls export behavior without affecting other deployments.
