Improve error messages in types

**Feature request**
It would be great to have export for utils.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_export` with default `false`.

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by locating the utilities and configuration handling, then trace how production deployments consume exports. Done means a new enable_export option exists with a default of false and the requested utility export works when enabled.
