Consider deprecating old helpers API

**Feature request**
It would be great to have monitoring for store.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_monitoring` with default `false`.

No files, tests, or entry points are named. Start by locating the store configuration path and any existing monitoring hooks, then clarify the intended production monitoring behavior and how enable_monitoring=false should behave. Done should include the configuration option and verification of the agreed monitoring behavior.
