Add configuration options for filtering

**Feature request**
It would be great to have sorting for types.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_sorting` with default `false`.

The issue names no files or tests. Start by locating configuration handling and the code that lists or orders types; clarify whether `enable_sorting` controls filtering, type ordering, or both, and identify the expected default behavior. Done means the option is recognized with a default of false and the requested type sorting is covered by tests.
