Consider deprecating old components API

**Feature request**
It would be great to have retry for helpers.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_retry` with default `false`.

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. First reconcile the title with the retry request, then locate the helper and configuration handling for `enable_retry`; done should include a defined retry behavior, a default of `false`, and coverage for the option.
