Improve config performance

**Feature request**
It would be great to have monitoring for models.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_monitoring` with default `false`.

Start by locating the configuration definition and the model execution or monitoring entry points. Confirm how configuration defaults are tested, then clarify what model metrics or events monitoring must expose; done means the option defaults to false and the requested monitoring behavior is covered by tests.
