Improve helpers performance

**Feature request**
It would be great to have compression for validation.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_compression` with default `false`.

No files or tests are named. Start by locating the configuration handling and validation code, then trace how validation is performed and where an enable_compression option would be read. Done means the option defaults to false, compression behavior is covered by tests, and existing validation remains unchanged when it is disabled.
