Support backup configuration

**Feature request**
It would be great to have search for controllers.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_search` with default `false`.

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by locating the controller configuration and existing search-related behavior, then clarify how `enable_search` should affect production deployments and what controller search results are expected. Done means the option defaults to false and the requested search behavior is covered by appropriate tests.
