Add configuration options for monitoring

**Feature request**
It would be great to have logging for middleware.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_logging` with default `false`.

No files or tests are named. Start by locating the middleware and configuration entry points, then trace how existing options are defined and consumed. Done means middleware logging is controlled by enable_logging and remains disabled by default, with the relevant behavior covered by tests if the project has them.
