Improve components performance

**Feature request**
It would be great to have filtering for validation.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_filtering` with default `false`.

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points, so first locate the configuration handling and validation path. Confirm how filtering should apply, define enable_filtering with a false default, and add coverage for both disabled and enabled behavior; done means validation filtering works for production use.
