Improve error messages in parsers

**Feature request**
It would be great to have monitoring for helpers.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_monitoring` with default `false`.

Start by locating the parser, helper, and configuration-handling entry points; the issue names no files or tests. Clarify what “monitoring for helpers” should observe and how it should behave, then verify that enable_monitoring defaults to false and that the intended behavior is covered.
