Update config documentation

**Feature request**
It would be great to have caching for lib.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_caching` with default `false`.

Start by locating the configuration handling and existing config documentation for the project, then determine how the proposed enable_caching option would affect the library. Done means the option is documented with a default of false and the caching behavior is defined and covered by the relevant checks.
