Add unit tests for models

**Feature request**
It would be great to have sorting for auth.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_sorting` with default `false`.

No files or existing tests are named. Start by locating the authentication configuration and current unit-test structure, then determine where `enable_sorting` belongs. Done means coverage for the default `false` value and the requested auth-sorting behavior, with the relevant unit tests passing.
