Add configuration options for timeout

**Feature request**
It would be great to have backup for lib.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_backup` with default `false`.

First clarify whether the requested change concerns timeout configuration or backup support, since the title and body differ. Then locate the configuration handling and the lib backup behavior; done should mean the intended option is defined with the stated default and its production use case is covered.
