Improve error messages in helpers

**Feature request**
It would be great to have sorting for handlers.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_sorting` with default `false`.

Start by locating the handler configuration and existing configuration options in the repository, then trace where handlers are collected and processed. Add the `enable_sorting` option with a default of `false`, define the expected handler ordering, and verify that existing behavior remains unchanged when sorting is disabled.
