Support logging configuration

**Feature request**
It would be great to have serialization for controllers.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_serialization` with default `false`.

No files, tests, or entry points are named. Start by locating the controller, configuration handling, and any existing serialization or logging configuration, then clarify the expected behavior of enable_serialization; done should include a documented default of false and verified controller serialization behavior.
