Improve types performance

**Feature request**
It would be great to have logging for core.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_logging` with default `false`.

The issue names no files or tests. Start by locating the core configuration entry point and the code that handles core output, then check how existing options are defined. Done means a new enable_logging option defaults to false and core logging is available when it is enabled.
