Handle edge cases in analytics

**Feature request**
It would be great to have analytics for utils.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_analytics` with default `false`.

Start by locating the utils implementation and the configuration entry point, then determine what analytics means for production deployments and which data or events are required. The work is done when the `enable_analytics` option defaults to `false` and the agreed analytics behavior is covered by appropriate tests.
