Add configuration options for analytics

It would be great to have encryption for components.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_encryption` with default `false`.

Start by locating the existing configuration handling and the code paths for components and analytics. Confirm how configuration defaults are represented and how components are processed before deciding where encryption belongs. Done means the `enable_encryption` option defaults to `false` and the intended production encryption behavior is covered by tests or documented verification.
