Improve error messages in store

**Feature request**
It would be great to have monitoring for helpers.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_monitoring` with default `false`.

No file, test, or entry point is identified. Start by locating the helper implementation and configuration-loading path, then confirm with maintainers what monitoring should observe and how it should be exposed; done requires the new option to default to false and a defined monitoring behavior.
