Improve types performance

**Feature request**
It would be great to have compression for validation.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_compression` with default `false`.

No files, tests, or validation entry points are named in the issue. Start by locating the configuration handling and validation paths, then determine where enable_compression belongs; done should include the option defaulting to false and a clearly tested compression behavior.
