Optimize middleware for large datasets

**Feature request**
It would be great to have timeout for data.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_timeout` with default `false`.

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by locating the middleware configuration and any existing timeout handling; define how `enable_timeout` applies to data operations, then verify that it defaults to `false` and that the enabled behavior is covered by tests.
