Improve components performance

**Feature request**
It would be great to have encryption for components.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_encryption` with default `false`.

No file, test, component type, encryption method, or key-management entry point is named. Start by locating the component configuration and the code that handles component data, then establish what must be encrypted and how keys are supplied. Done means enable_encryption defaults to false and the intended production encryption behavior is covered by tests.
