Update services documentation

**Feature request**
It would be great to have serialization for services.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_serialization` with default `false`.

No files, tests, or entry points are identified. Start by locating the service configuration and serialization handling, then determine how the new option should affect production deployments. Done means services can be serialized when enabled and retain current behavior by default.
