Improve error messages in auth

**Feature request**
It would be great to have logging for types.

**Use case**
Many users need this functionality for production deployments.

**Implementation idea**
Add a new config option `enable_logging` with default `false`.

No files or tests are named. Start by locating the authentication configuration entry point and any existing logging or type-handling paths; confirm how options are declared and consumed. Done means the new enable_logging option defaults to false and clearly controls the requested type logging, with relevant behavior verified by the project’s existing checks.
